Sustainable funeral floristry from my garden studio in St Albans

When my father died, I did what most people do. I followed the funeral director's suggestion and ordered flowers from an online catalogue.
I clicked through the options without really thinking about where they came from, how they were made, or whether they reflected the man I was trying to honour. He was a lifelong gardener, it was what connected us.
I was disappointed with what arrived, and I've thought about it ever since.
That experience pushed me to learn everything I could about the cut flower industry. The environmental cost of imported stems, the harm caused by floral foam, the single-use plastics wrapped around almost every traditional arrangement. The more I learned, the more I wanted to do something different.
Flowers by Alison grew out of that. It is my way of offering families something better - a tribute that is beautiful, natural, and made with genuine care.

I source exclusively from UK growers and, where possible, from my own garden. No imported flowers, no air miles, no compromise on where the stems have come from.

Every arrangement I make is either fully compostable or uses returnable or recyclable containers. Floral foam - still used in most traditional funeral arrangements - is a microplastic that never breaks down. I don't use it.

I work with whatever nature is offering at the time of year. From October to February, fresh UK-grown stems can be limited and I may incorporate dried flowers. I will always tell you this in advance.
I work from my garden studio in St Albans, Hertfordshire. It is a small, personal operation - and deliberately so.
Every tribute I make is discussed and agreed with you before any work begins.
There are no catalogues to click through and no standard packages to choose from. We talk, I listen, and then I create something that reflects your loved one.
If you have flowers or foliage growing in your own garden that you would like included, whether it was something your loved one grew themselves, or simply something that feels right - I would be very happy to incorporate them. It is one of the things that makes these arrangements genuinely unique.
I offer this service alongside other commitments, so please bear with me if I'm not immediately available when you call. A voicemail, text or email is the best way to reach me, and I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Arrangements are delivered to St Albans funeral directors, or collected from my studio at an agreed time.

Every tribute begins with a conversation. Get in touch and I'll respond as soon as possible.
